Pair Of Mall Thefts Top $2K: Millburn Cops

Thieves took sunglasses, a comforter and a coat, police said.

MILLBURN, NJ - It was the case of caught in the act and the one that got away when Bloomingdales and Macy's were targeted by thieves in the Mall at Short Hills, police said.

  • Bloomingdales was hit on Sept. 21 to the tune of $1,050, police said. According to officials, Millburn Police Officer Zonn responded to Bloomingdales on a theft report where Bloomingdales personnel said a black female with blond hair dressed in a black jacket and pants took a coat valued at $1,050. Employees said the woman concealed the coat in a bag before leaving the store without making payment. The incident is under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.
  • Millburn Police Officer Nacim responded to Macy's on a theft report on Sept. 22 where personnel said 54- year-old Karla Pigford of Newark concealed two pairs of sunglasses in her purse and carried a comforter out of the store without paying, police said. The total value of the items taken was estimated at $1,125, police said. Pigford was placed under arrest and charged with shoplifting before being remanded to the Essex County Correctional Facility, police said.
