Prupis Kicks Off Campaign For Township Committee

On August 22nd, the Millburn-Shorts Hills Democratic Party kicked off the campaign for Tara Prupis in her bid for Millburn Township Committee. As a concerned resident, parent and merchant, Tara has made a significant investment in Millburn’s downtown with her health and environmentally conscious shop, Green Nectar Juicery that opened 5 years ago.

The kick off event was well attended with over 100 people joining in their support of Tara to bring financial discipline, better communication and fresh ideas to the township committee. Governor Richard Codey was the honorary speaker at the event.

Many local merchants who have seen Tara’s work in transforming the Downtown Millburn Development Alliance support her platform. As a member of the DMDA, Tara was part of the committee that spearheaded rewriting the organization’s by-laws that would require township committee member participation, transparency in the finances, and a re-dedication to the mission to improve the economic vitality of the downtown.

Tara has begun to work closely with members of the Board of Education to begin the conversation of better communication between the Township Committee and the Board of Education.

Tara regularly attends Township Committee meetings and understands the lack of oversight from past committee members on the Complete Streets project leading to mismanagement and waste. Tara’s opponent voted for the 6 million dollar project. Improved pedestrian safety was the motivation behind this initiative that could have been solved by working with traffic engineers to adjust the traffic light signalization and careful monitoring of speed limits through the downtown instead of spending over $6 million dollars in taxpayer funds. Tara is dedicated to seeking a cost effective solution to fixing the problems created by the project including increased response times by emergency vehicles, increased and unsafe traffic through the surrounding neighborhoods and other impediments to residents and visitors.

Tara looks forward to being part of the Blue Wave in New Jersey and is supporting Tom Malinowski in his bid for the NJ 7th congressional district seat. The large crowd was vey enthusiastic towards both Tara and Tom Malinowski. The general sentiment was that all politics are local, real change starts at the grass roots level.
