Runners Take Their Marks in Night Race
Official race results and statistics are in. Winner finishes in 14:50:76.
Jeffrey Perrella of Westfield won the 32nd Annual Investors Savings Bank President’s Cup on Monday night in Millburn. The night race is a 5K event, which saw more than 1,300 runners complete the course, though more than 1,500 were registered at the start of the race.
The 23-year-old Perrella, who clocked in at 14:50.76, was more than 17 seconds ahead the of the competition, with Chris Heibell of Hillsborough taking second and Michael Rolek of Maplewood in third. Last year’s winner, Justin Scheid of Sparta, claimed fourth place this time around.
The event began in the Charlie Browns’s parking lot, where runners registered, free water was given out, a sneaker raffle was hosted and free cups of Sam Adams were distributed.

At 7:30, following a brief “warm-up,” the kids’ fun run commenced, where scores of children raced down Essex Avenue.
After the children were cleared, the 5K participants lined up at the intersection of Essex and Old Short Hills Rd.

The fastest female in the event was Elena Rozhko, 38, who completed the course in 17:21.96 and placed 37th overall. Her time was more than 10 seconds faster than last year’s top female runner.
The fastest local male was Millburn’s Ryan Campi,23, who clocked in at 16:25.11 and was 19th overall. Corey Weiss, 15, who starred as the top female distance runner at Millburn High School this year, was the fastest local female, coming in at 19:54.78.
Brian Crowley of Hillsborough was the fastest male over 40 and was also the fastest over 30, while Jen Found was the fastest female over 40.
Carlo DiGiorgio of Gillette, NJ, was the oldest runner to complete the event. The 78 year-old, clocked in at 28:10.30. Chatham’s Shirley Pettijohn, 77, was the oldest female to complete the race, coming in at 44:33.43. The youngest runner to complete the course was Maplewood’s Henry Peacock. The six-year-old runner finished in 30:58.27.

The President's Cup Night Race 5K is co-sponsored by Investors Savings Bank and the Millburn-Short Hills Chamber of Commerce and follows a route along Essex Street and Millburn Avenue.
