Millburn High Schooler Wins Gold Medal at Regional Fencing Competition

Andrew Greenberg, of Short Hills, won a gold medal at a Regional Youth Fencing Competition in Suffern, NY last week.

A Millburn High School student took home the gold at a regional fencing tournament held in New York last week. Andrew Greenberg, a Short Hills resident, has been fencing competitively for five years.

Greenberg, a student at the New Jersey Fencing Alliance in Maplewood, was the reigning champion in the Y14 Men’s Saber competition on Saturday, Nov. 16. Thrust Fencing at Rockland Community College in Suffern, NY hosted the tournament.

34 of the top fencers from this region competed at the tournament. Andrew has been fencing at the New Jersey Fencing Alliance for five years and currently holds a “D” rating.

“Andrew is an incredible fencer with great power and skill,” Andrew’s coach, Abdoulaye Thiam said. “He breaks more blades on other fencers than I’ve ever seen before.”
