Sheep on a Cloud Comes to Downtown Millburn

The store specializes in shearling.

Shearling has been a tradition for decades, but it has never been available to consumers directly. That is until now.

Sheep on a Cloud, one of downtown Millburn's newest stores, has shearling clothes, jackets and accessories at "convenient prices." Julio Biler, co-owner and store manager, said the store imports its goods from Uraguay, which is his home country, and they liked to be able to offer consumers the chance to buy shearling direct.

"We wanted to create a place with reasonable, convenient prices for real shearling jackets, sweaters and accessories," he said. "Some people have been surprised how convenient out prices are."

Shearling is sheepskin or lambskin pelt that has gone through a limited shearling process. Biler said some people don't believe what Sheep on a Cloud is offering is for real.

"It's possible to do without a (designer) label," he said. "(Selling shearling) has been a tradition for me for 34 years, but it has never been sold direct. I do see a niche for us."

Biler said he's been working with shearling for more than 40 years. The factory from where the products are purchased for Sheep on a Cloud has been in the same family for three generations and has about 400 workers. They export mainly to other South American countries and have not exported much to the United States.

Sheep on a Cloud is located at 353 Millburn Ave. and has been open for about a month.
