Short Hills Mall Cracks National ‘Top 100 Property Taxes’ List

SHORT HILLS, NJ — Think that you have a high tax bill, Short Hills? It could be worse, according to a recent report that named the Mall At Short Hills among the “Top 100 Property Taxes in the U.S.” for 2017.
A study from CommercialCafé.com recently analyzed property taxes across the nation to find the top tax-paying buildings in America. The report found that there were three New Jersey buildings that made the list:
- Borgata Hotel, Casino & Spa (Atlantic City) - $23,030,497 (taxes paid in 2016)
- Harrah's Resort Atlantic City (Atlantic City) - $16,901,373
- The Mall at Short Hills (Short Hills) - $15,078,000
According to the study, the property with the highest property tax in 2016 was the General Motors Building in New York, which paid $71,681,674. Read the full report and methodology here.

Just because your own tax bill isn’t as gargantuan as that of a multi-million dollar mall doesn’t mean it’s insignificant, though. In New Jersey, between 2015 and 2016, the average homeowner’s tax bill rose to $8,549, an increase of 2.3 percent, a recent report stated.
