Short Hills Mall Thefts Keep Millburn Police Busy

Millburn officers responded to seven reported thefts and a fraud case at the Short Hills mall last week.

Short Hills, NJ – There is a hidden cost to having one of the largest malls in the area in your backyard… police personnel hours.

According to the Millburn Police Department, between Feb. 10 and 15, officers responded to eight reported thefts at The Mall At Short Hills.

In addition to a pair of thefts that were reported at Joes’ American Bar and Grill, the following incidents took place at the mall last week, according to police:

  • On February 15, 2016, Millburn Police Officer Laverty responded to the Nordstrom at The Mall at Short Hills on a fraud report. Nordstrom personnel reported that a male with dreadlocks and glasses wearing a brown leather coat with a grey-hooded sweatshirt made three fraudulent credit card purchases valued at $1,695 with a stolen credit card. The incident is under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.
  • On February 10, 2016, Millburn Police Officer Nacim responded to Macy’s at The Mall at Short Hills on a theft report. Macy’s personnel reported that 22-year-old Danaisja Johnson out of Tobyhanna, PA, allegedly concealed 17 articles of clothing valued at $1,498 in a bag and left the store without making payment. Johnson was placed under arrest for shoplifting and resisting arrest when she allegedly tried to prevent Nacim from searching her handbag. She was released with a court date.
  • On February 11, 2016, Millburn Police Officer Wichelns responded to True Religion at The Mall at Short Hills on a criminal mischief report. True Religion personnel reported that five articles of clothing valued at $507 were damaged when the sensor tags were removed on February 10. The incident is under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.
  • On February 11, 2016, Millburn Police Officer Wichelns responded to Bloomingdale’s at The Mall at Short Hills on a theft report. Bloomingdale’s personnel reported that a 46-year-old from Caldwell concealed an article of clothing valued at $98 under his back brace and left the store without making payment. He was placed under arrest and charged with shoplifting and possession of burglary tools, and released with a court date.
  • On February 11, 2016, Millburn Police Officer Fairchild responded to Macy’s at The Mall at Short Hills on a theft report. Macy’s personnel reported that 32-year-old Anna Wnorowski of Maplewood allegedly concealed eight items valued at $693 in a bag and left the store without making payment. Wnorowski was placed under arrest and charged with shoplifting before being released with a court date.
  • On February 14, 2016, Millburn Police Officer O’Neill responded to Salvatore Ferragamo at The Mall at Short Hills on a theft report. Salvatore Ferragamo personnel reported that five belts valued at $2,330 were stolen on February 2. The incident is under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.
