Sparta's Scheid Wins President's Cup

The annual downtown Millburn night race draws nearly 1,500 runners on Monday.

Justin Scheid pulled away from the rest of the field on Monday night in Millburn, claiming the 31st annual President's Cup 5k race, coming in at 14:50.65. The Sparta resident won by a healthy margin, with second place Chris Heibell of Hillsborough running a 15:14.03. Third place went to Tim Morgan of South Plainfield.

The fastest female, Catherine Smith of Wayne, finished the race in 41st place with a 17:32.8. The 37-year-old runner finished five spots ahead of the next female and 22 spots ahead of any female within two years of her age.

Myles Udland was the fastest Millburn resident to run, finishing off the 5k in seventh place, averaging a 5:04 mile en route to the top 10 finish. Udland was one of two Millburn runners to finish in the top 30. There were 1,497 runners overall in the event.

Of the top five runners from Millburn, four of them were 18-years old or younger. In 29th place Robert Stone is 14 as is Matthew Deshaw in 67th place. Eric O'Brien, 18 years old, posted an 18:36.65 for 80th place. Daniel Bier, 17, took 87th overall.

Karl O'Reilly was the fastest male over 30 in eighth place, while Richard Burke was the fastest runner over 40 in 17th and Fair Lawn's Rich Pingitore was the fastest runner over age 50, in 38th. Smith was the fastest female over 30, while Kathleen Rocker of Metuchen was the fastest woman over 40 at 120th place and Morristown's Nora Cary finished the race before any other female over 50.
