The first grade at St. Rose of Lima Academy in Short Hills, experienced and celebrated the Hindu holiday of Dewali. It is a happy celebration that is also known as the Festival of Lights where lights are lit, and gifts and sweets are exchanged. The children heard The Story of Divaali, a book about the triumph of good over evil. They also saw the beautiful candles that families light.
The class worked on making a Dewali lantern that they could take home. They also received candy and fruit to share. It was a happy, enriched morning in first grade.
