Diwali: A Festival of Lights Celebration

Diwali: A Festival of Lights Celebration
St. Rose of Lima Academy students and teachers were treated to a wonderful assembly program, where we learned about the Indian holiday Diwali. The name of the festival comes from the Sanskrit word meaning, “Row of Lights.” It is a happy, family celebration, which originated in India. Diwali is a festival that is celebrated each year on the 15th day of the month of Kartik, in the Hindu calendar. During Diwali, clay lamps are lit to signify the destruction, through knowledge, of all negative qualities, such as anger, fear, and suffering. The students and teachers learned a traditional dance and enjoyed a variety of wonderful ethnic food.
