Sue Maskaleris and Pablo Aslan will present Two to Tango, a South American musical performance, at 3pm Sunday April 9 at Millburn Library.
Short Hills native Sue Maskaleris returns to the Millburn Library Sunday, 200 Glen Avenue, Millburn on April 9th at 3pm in another South American musical program, "Two to Tango." Sue Maskaleris is an award-winning jazz pianist, singer and composer who will also play violin. With Argentinian Grammy-nominated bassist Pablo Aslan, they will take you on a musical tour of the contradanzas and habaneras of Cuba and Spain, up through Brazilian and Argentinian tango. Two of her latest compositions will be premiered: "The Vigiliante" which was inspired from a book from this very library, and the jazz tone poem "Habanera Fantastico."
Sue was one of the first to perform at the library in 1977. She has toured the world as soloist and bandleader performing jazz and Brazilian jazz. She won 2nd Prize in the Thelonious Monk Composition Competition and won the World category for the Billboard Song Contest. Pablo is one of the creators of modern jazz-influenced tango, currently performing tangos with the Simfonica Nacional in Buenos Aires. He led a group that was nominated for the Latin Grammy for Best Tango Album in 2009 for "Tango Grill."
