The Weekender: Les Miserables and Into the Woods
What's going on in and around town this weekend.

As the countdown to the premiere of the seventh Harry Potter movie ends this weekend, other performers will be showing off their work for the first time this weekend.
The Paper Mill Playhouse's 25th anniversary production of "" will open on Friday. It runs through December 30. Performances will be held on Wednesdays at 7 p.m., Thursdays at 1:30 and 7 p.m., Fridays at 7 p.m., Saturdays at 1:30 and 7 p.m. and Sundays at 1:30 and 7 p.m. Single tickets are currently on sale from $25 to $92. On Friday and Saturday, Millburn High School's Limelight Players will perform Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's "." The musical combines the stories of Jack and the Beanstalk, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel and Cinderella into an original and entertaining tale. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. on both nights. On Sunday, the Prospect Presbyterian Church (646 Prospect St. in Maplewood) will host the Summit Chorale's first concert of the season, "Music for the Soul," at 7:30 p.m. Pieces the group will perform include Gabriel Fauré's "Requiem," Anton Bruckner's "Three Graduals for the Church Year," Felix Mendelssohn's "Te Deum," and Eric Whitacre's "Lux Aurumque." Tickets are $22 in advance for adults, $20 for seniors, and $10 for seniors.

On Saturday, the Community FoodBank of New Jersey will host a turkey drive at Kings Super Market in Short Hills at 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Frozen turkeys, canned goods and cash contributions will be accepted.
The Millburn-Short Hills Chapter of the American Red Cross also holds its monthly blood drive on Saturday at 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Millburn Public Library. Those 17 years old and older are eligible to donate. Those 16 years old can donate with parental permission.
Salon Profilo in Millburn and the Minette Grosso McKenna Angel Foundation are hosting a Cut-A-Thon on Sunday at noon to 4 p.m. All proceeds will help support families affected by breast cancer. Haircut prices will be reduced from $75 to $50. Call 973-379-8300 to make an appointment.
