Ticket Machines Coming to Millburn and Short Hills Train Stations

They'll be installed soon for commuter convenience.

NJ Transit ticket vending machines are coming to the Millburn and Short Hills train stations over the next few weeks.

Workers have installed the wiring for two machines at the Millburn station, and a NJ Transit spokesman said the machines will be installed the first week of December. There are similar plans to install two machines at the Short Hills station early in 2010.

While the ticket machines will allow train riders to purchase tickets even when the station's ticket office is closed, there are no plans to close the two ticket offices at this time, the spokeswomen said. The Millburn ticket office is open 4:50 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. Monday through Friday, and the Short Hills ticket office is open 4:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

Once the ticket machines are installed, any ticket purchased on board a train leaving either station will be subject to a $5 surcharge at all times. Right now tickets are only subject to the extra charge when the ticket offices are open. NJ Transit has a policy to charge the extra $5 for tickets purchased on board if there is a ticket vending machine or open ticket office available.
