Soon enough the winter weather will be behind us and before you know it your child will be in water shoes. And then come the question’s, when do I buy them? Do I buy them now because I won’t be able to find them when I need them? If I do buy them now will my child feet grow and grow out of them before the season is over, because we all know the warm weather can last well into September. All great questions and I hope I can help sort some of that out for you. First off let’s start with sizing. Of course if we had a crystal ball and knew when your child was going to have a growth spurt that would be one answer to not only the foot sizing issue but also being able to shop ahead and catch some value pricing. You can however follow this guideline as a general rule of thumb. Baby’s feet grow the fastest in the first 3 years of their life and tend to slow down after that. Of course this isn’t exact for all babies but a guide. When we measure a child’s foot, normally we go up a half size for grow room. If you are buying water friendly footwear you can generally go up a half size. Water footwear usually comes in full sizes only. If you’re buying footwear in April you child should be able to wear them for the entire season.
Some water friendly footwear allows the foot to breath however remember that children’s feet perspire twice as much as adults so whatever product your purchasing make certain they are made of quality materials to withstand all the stresses they will receive during the season.
