What a Peach!

Patrons to the Farmers Market Annual Peach Festival find a sweet spot downtown.

Nothing says summer quite like a juicy peach, except for maybe a juicy watermelon, but that's a fruit for a different day. On Tuesday, the Millburn Farmers' Market celebrated summer with its annual Peach Festival, which was festive and, naturally, full of ripe, juicy peaches.

It was a good day to sample peaches, score some recipes for peachy dishes (salsa, cobbler, pie, salad to name a possible few), to taste som pies and to enter a contest to win a basket of peaches as well as two tickets to a Paper Mill Playhouse production and a one-year subscription to Edible Magazine.

Patrons enjoyed the guitar music of Tony Christopher, who kept cool under a tent as he performed while temperatures climbed into the 90ss. They also enjoyed samplings of peach summer salad from Osteria Mediterrania Restaurant, located on Main Street. The salad will be on restaurant's menu through August in honor of Peach month.

The usual Farmers Market fare was also in abundance -- fresh Jersey corn and tomatoes, squash, peppers, kale, lettuce, basil, berries and even mozzarella and baguettes. And that other summer fruit, watermelon.

You can find the Farmers Market at the corner of Essex and Main streets every Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. now though October.
