Winter Storm Warning Remains In Effect for Millburn-Short Hills

Another six inches of snow?

A National Weather Service winter warning remains in effect for residents of Essex and Hudson County. Forecasters are predicting snow accumulation of three to six inches from Wednesday to Thursday evening.

The NWS advisory will remain in effect until 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 5.

According to the NWS, there will be the potential for “significant snow, sleet or ice conditions that may impact travel.”

An alert from 511NJ stated that “Motorists are advised to reduce speed and use caution… Be alert when approaching bridges and overpasses, as they will freeze before the road surface.”

According to the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety, it’s a motorist’s duty to remove all ice and snow from their vehicle before driving, especially from the hood, windows and roof.

“Motorists who fail to do so face fines of $25 to $75 for each offense, regardless of whether the ice and snow is dislodged from the vehicle,” states a post on the agency’s website.

“If flying ice or snow causes property damage or injury to others, motorists face fines of $200 to $1,000 for each offense. There are approximately 500 fatalities in the United States per year due to icy road conditions.”

Thursday: Snow, mainly before 5pm. Temperature falling to around 20 by 4pm. Wind chill values between 10 and 20. North wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Thursday Night: A chance of snow before 8pm. Cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 8. Wind chill values between -5 and zero. Northwest wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
