According to officials, Youth Art Month focuses attention on the power of art education as an impactful element in the education of all elementary, middle, and secondary students. Through involvement in the visual arts, students develop creative problem-solving and critical thinking abilities as well as a deeper understanding of the importance of learning about the beliefs and values from historic and cultural influences.

The art courses available to the students throughout the district also help to build an aesthetic sensitivity, as well as an appreciation for a process of design development that is transferable to other subjects. Art education also helps students to learn patience, critical observational skills and the ability to communicate ideas in a variety of ways.
