3 Montclair Firefighters Get Minor Injuries In House Fire (VIDEO)

The residents self-evacuated before emergency responders arrived on the scene, the Montclair Fire Department stated.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — A house fire in Montclair caused three minor injuries to fire department personnel earlier this week. The residents self-evacuated before emergency responders arrived on the scene, the Montclair Fire Department stated.

Firefighters rescued a cat from the blaze, authorities said.

According to the Montclair Fire Department, crews arrived at a North Fullerton Avenue home around 5:56 a.m. on Monday to find “heavy smoke and fire” between the second and third floors at the rear of the property.

Firefighters gained control of the blaze “quickly,” with the last crews leaving the scene at 9:01 a.m. Units from Bloomfield and Clifton helped at the scene, authorities said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, according to the Montclair Fire Department.

There were three minor fire department injuries, and no reported civilian injuries, authorities said.

“The second and third floors of the building sustained fire, smoke and water damage,” Montclair Fire Department Deputy Chief Robert Duncan said. “The first-floor sustained extensive water damage. Substantial overhaul was necessary to ensure fire was extinguished in all walls and voids.”
