3 NJ Companies Make More In An Hour Than You Earn In A Lifetime: Study

"The average American will earn less in their lifetime than every company on this list earns in an hour," a new study says.

NEW JERSEY — Feeling overwhelmed by the growing size – and profits – of huge, multinational corporations? It’s not just your imagination, a recent study says: in New Jersey, there are three companies that will each make more money in an hour than the average American will earn in their entire lifetime.

Financial technology company Tipalti recently took a look at the annual profit figures of 50 of the world’s best-known corporations to find those that are making the most money per second. Their list included three with headquarters in New Jersey: Verizon (Basking Ridge), Johnson & Johnson (New Brunswick) and Merck (Rahway).

Verizon, which maintains an operational headquarters in the Garden State, came in at #10 on the list with a profit of $2,032,078 per hour. Johnson & Johnson ranked 12th with a profit of $1,679,680 per hour, and Merck ranked 33rd with a profit of $806,735.

“Apple is the world’s most profitable business, generating over $157 million a day, which equates to $1,820 every single second and $6,553,767 every hour,” Tipalti stated. “To put that into context, the average worker in the USA is projected to earn $1.7 million in their lifetime, meaning the average American will earn less in their lifetime than every company on this list earns in an hour.”
