4 Montclair Cars Stolen: Hillside, Berkeley, Pine, Upper Mtn.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — If you’re a vehicle owner in Montclair, you can avoid a costly mistake with a simple move: don’t leave your keys in the car.
Last week, the Montclair Police Department issued a reminder to local vehicle owners that they should lock their vehicles and remember not to leave the keys behind. In their Jan. 25 alert, police advised local residents that “if a key fob is left in the vehicle, a criminal may be able to enter and take custody.”
The week of the alert, Montclair residents reported the following vehicle thefts, police said:

- Jan. 23 (Hillside Avenue) - Theft of a delivery vehicle, which had been left running in the street. This vehicle was located within the hour, parked unoccupied in the City of Orange.
- Jan. 25 (Berkeley Place) - Theft of a 2016 BMW X1 from a residential driveway.
- Jan. 25 (Upper Mountain Avenue) - Theft of a 2017 Ford Explorer from the driveway of a home.
- Jan. 25 (Pine Street) - Theft of a Ford 500 Sedan from an apartment building parking area.
