1. Parking Rules In Montclair Are About To Change: What Drivers Should Know (patch.com) — Montclair drivers will soon see higher parking permit and meter rates, longer enforcement hours, and new rules in busy downtown zones starting July 6. The town says the changes aim to ease congestion, improve turnover in business districts, and fund parking system maintenance without using tax dollars, while keeping deck hourly rates unchanged.
2. NJ-11 Congress Primary Election: 2026 Voter Guide (patch.com) — Voters in Montclair’s portion of New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District will soon help decide party nominees for the U.S. House in the June 2 primary. The guide explains who is running in both parties, outlines key dates for early and Election Day voting, and points residents to official resources for registration, polling locations, and mail-in ballots.
3. Important News about Federal Student Loans (montclair.edu) — Montclair students and families face major federal loan changes starting with the 2026–27 aid year, including tighter links between credit load and eligibility and new Parent PLUS borrowing caps. Legacy exceptions let some Montclair enrollees keep old Parent and Grad PLUS rules, but any break in enrollment ends that protection, so planning course loads and backup funding is crucial.
4. Judge Rules Against Challenger in Montclair Affordable Housing Case (montclairlocal.news) — A state judge has again upheld Montclair’s 10-year affordable housing plan, rejecting resident Sarah Avery’s bid to reopen her challenge to the township’s numbers. The ruling leaves Montclair’s plan — praised by Fair Share Housing Center — in place and avoids the kind of builder’s remedy lawsuits now hitting West Orange, while directing Avery to press her concerns with local and state officials instead.
5. N.J. Legal Giant With Montclair Roots Pens Memoir About Life With Disability (montclairlocal.news) — A longtime Montclair resident and former ACLU-NJ legal director, Ed Barocas, has released a memoir reflecting on his life with muscular dystrophy and groundbreaking civil liberties work. He shares how Montclair shaped his career and daily routines, from Valley Road living to favorite local restaurants, while recounting courtroom battles that improved accessibility and advanced free speech and police transparency across New Jersey.
