Back-To-Back Armed Robberies Reported In Montclair: Police

Both incidents allegedly involved a pair of men about 20-years-old, Montclair police said.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — A pair of armed robberies took place in Montclair about 30 minutes apart on Monday, authorities said. Both incidents allegedly involved a pair of men about 20-years-old.

According to the Montclair Police Department, the first incident took place around 6:30 a.m. as a 64-year-old Montclair man was walking on Virginia Avenue. The victim told officers that a dark-colored SUV approached him and two men exited the vehicle. One of the men brandished a handgun and they stole about $100 cash from his pocket, he said.

The second robbery took place around 7 a.m. on Sylvan Place, police said.

The victim, a 47-year-old Montclair man, said he was walking on Sylvan Place when two men about 20-years-old in a dark-colored SUV approached him and got out of the vehicle. One of the men allegedly pulled out a handgun and demanded that the victim hand over his wallet and bag, which contained a laptop computer and cellular phone.

Neither victim was injured, police said.

Montclair police are investigating both incidents, authorities said. No additional information was immediately available.

Montclair authorities said that a separate shooting that took place in town on Sunday in the area of Pine Street and Glenridge Avenue doesn’t appear to be related to the above robberies.
