The League of Women Voters of the Montclair Area recently issued a reminder to local residents, asking them to make sure they are registered to vote in the 2022 general election.
The group released the following letter to the editor about voting this November:
“The League of Women Voters of the Montclair Area reminds citizens that the voter registration deadline for the November 8, 2022 General Election is October 18, 2022. Eligible citizens can register to vote securely and easily online or they may download and mail a paper registration form. Voter registration information, including eligibility requirements and forms, are available at lwvnj.org/vote.
“Voters must re-register to vote by the deadline if they change their name, address, signature or complete a sentence of incarceration.
“Voters unsure if they are registered or if their registration is current can check their voter registration status online at Vote.NJ.Gov using the "Am I Registered " tool on the New Jersey Division of Elections website.
“This election, voters will be casting a ballot in all new Congressional districts following the 2020 redistricting cycle. It's especially important that voters check what district they will be voting in ahead of time since Montclair's Congressional districts 10 and 11 have changed and may be different from years past. Visit fairdistrictsnj.org to use the district look-up tool, enter an address in the search box, and see how districts for both state and federal representatives have changed. Voters can also find an interactive map and a list of towns that have been added and removed from each district.
“The League of Women Voters of the Montclair Area also reminds New Jersey Voters that they have multiple options to cast a ballot this year. For information about New Jersey's new in-person early voting option and information about casting a mail-in ballot visit lwvnj.org/vote.”
The League of Women Voters of the Montclair Area suggested that voters have a plan in place to ensure that they are able to vote. Here are some questions to ask yourself, the group said:
- Do you know the location of your polling place if you're voting in person?
- Do you need to take off work or secure child care?
- Are there friends or family you could bring with you to vote?
