On Thursday, April 28, Volunteer Lawyers for Justice will host "Una Notte Italiana" at Montclair's popular Bistro 18. The fundraiser features a five-course, Italian-themed tasting menu with a pairing of wines from Italy's famed Veneto region. Francis Mastrangelo, a renowned wine consultant, will serve as sommelier for the event, which begins at 7 p.m.
Proceeds from "Una Notte Italiana" will benefit VLJ's programs including free legal counsel and advice; educational seminars on various legal matters such as consumer law, bankruptcy, family law, and special education; and direct representation for at-risk individuals facing critical civil legal issues. Since its founding, Newark-based VLJ has grown from a grass roots effort of 30 volunteer attorneys in Essex County to a state-wide not-for-profit with five staff attorneys and more than 1,500 volunteer attorneys aiding thousands of economically-disadvantaged clients each year.
Located at 18 South Fullerton Avenue in Montclair, Bistro 18 features new American cuisine with Asian and European influences. Under the direction of veteran restaurateur George Kalivas, the restaurant is known for its charm of a neighborhood bistro with old-world service and a knowledgeable staff.
