Fire Torches Abandoned Overbrook Asylum Building In Essex County
More than 50 firefighters responded to the scene of the blaze, which torched a building at the popular NJ urban exploration destination.

A fire ripped through a building at the Old Essex County Hospital grounds in Cedar Grove on Friday around 2 a.m., causing significant damage to one of the 100-year-old buildings on the property.
More than 50 firefighters from multiple agencies battled the blaze for several hours, arriving on the scene to find heavy flames coming through the building’s roof, according to Fios1 News.
No injuries were reported and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is conducting an investigation into the fire’s origin, Fios1 reported.

Authorities recently said that there has been an uptick in trespassing incidents at the vacant property, which was formerly the site of the Overbrook Asylum and is now a popular urban tourism destination despite the fact that it’s off-limits to the public.
