Five Ways To Mark Earth Day!

Turtle Back Zoo, Isabel Rose Cafe, and Essex Environmental Center all hold special events

 

This is the 42nd Anniversary of Earth Day

There are at least FIVE ways you can celebrate in and near Montclair!

1) Buy a Dirt and Worm Cupcake

For Earth Day Cupcakes by Carousel at 25 Church Street will be  offering a 10 percent donation from the sale of the Dirt and Worm cupcakes sold this Sunday, April 22 to local environmental centers in celebration of Earth Day.

2) Party For the Planet

The Turtle Back Zoo invites humans to celebrate Earth Day with other beasts who share the planet with them. Special activities are scheduled throughout the day; bring in a reusable mug and get free fountain drinks at the zoo cafe. Call 973-731-5800 or go to www.turtlebackzoo.org for more information. Zoo Admission: Adults $10; Children $7; Seniors $7; Under 2 Free. Date: Sunday, April 22, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Place: 560 Northfield Ave., West Orange.

3) Earth Day at the Essex County Environmental Center

Earth Day is for all ages. The public is invited to the Environmental Center's annual outdoor Earth Day festival. Play in nature with crafts, games, recreation opportunities, demonstrations, local green vendor products and services, and information on all partner groups at the Center. The event is sponsored by Public Service Electric and Gas, Covanta Energy-Essex, and Whole Foods of West Orange. This is a free event, but some vendor items will be for sale. Earth Day will be held as follows: Date: Saturday, April 21, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Place: Essex County Environmental Center, 621B Eagle Rock Ave., Roseland.

4) Go to Terra at the Isabel Rose Cafe at the Montclair Public Library

On Saturday, April 21, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Plan a sunflower! Grow a salad! Share some tea! They will bring the seeds and soil if you come with willing hands. Free! 

5) Again, go to Terra...

On Sunday, April 22, 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Meet the bees! Come listen to the story of the City of the Bees as told by Joseph Lelinho, Beekeeper with Hilltop Honey. See the Observation Hive containing a living colony of Honeybees! In this informational discussion, you'll learn how a colony of bees survives, its importance for the environment, and much more. Once you meet the bees, you'll never want to swat one again! Free! For more information call 973-744-6600.
