MONTCLAIR, NJ — As the world prepares to celebrate 2017 International Women's Day on Wednesday, a Montclair bakery says it will commemorate the holiday by giving its employees a paid day off on March 8.

According to a social media post from the Montclair Bread Company, the bakery will be closed to “honor all the women who work hard every day to support themselves and their families along with all the women throughout history who have paved the way to make this world a better place.”

All employees will be paid for their normal hours, the company stated.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

According to InternationalWomensDay.com, the holiday is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.

“The world of work is changing, and with significant implications for women,” the United Nations website states. “On one hand, we have globalization, technological and digital revolution and the opportunities they bring, and on the other hand, the growing informality of labor, unstable livelihoods and incomes, new fiscal and trade policies and environmental impacts—all of which must be addressed in the context of women’s economic empowerment.”
