K-9 Unit Searches For Man In Montclair On New Year’s Eve
Police: Authorities used a K-9 unit during an attempt to locate a man spotted walking through several Montclair backyards on NYE.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Authorities used a K-9 unit during an unsuccessful attempt to locate a man spotted walking through several Montclair backyards on New Year’s Eve, police say.
According to the Montclair Police Department, police responded to Christopher Street on a report of a man walking through backyards in the area. Callers described the man as a light-complexioned black or Hispanic male about 5 feet 9 inches with facial hair, wearing dark clothing and a red, beanie-style hat.
An Essex County Sheriff K-9 later responded to the area and attempted to locate the man with no results, police said.

Montclair police stated that the callers reported seeing the man in their yards around the same time the following two suspicious incidents took place on Clarewill Avenue and Park Street.
- Clarewill Avenue – “The residents discovered that while they were home, an unknown person had entered their kitchen through a rear door and stolen the contents of a purse. The suspect had also entered their vehicle, parked in the driveway of the home. Cash was taken in this incident.”
- Park Street – “An unlocked vehicle parked in a residential driveway was entered. An attempt was also made to enter the rear door of that residence. Nothing was noticed missing at this time.”
