MONTCLAIR, NJ — Montclair’s longstanding chair of the local planning board is calling it quits after nearly three decades of service.

John Wynn, who is stepping down from the Montclair Planning Board after 29 years, got a round of applause and appreciation at the board's meeting on Monday. He was first sworn in as a member in 1995.

The board and town administrators presented Wynn with a plaque honoring his “hard work and dedication” as chair throughout the years at his final meeting as chair (watch the video below).

“I will miss doing this,” Wynn said, who added that the pressure of the job stopped being a burden after so many years, eventually turning into something that he looked forward to as a way of contributing to the town.

The Montclair Planning Board consists of nine members and two alternate members. It is charged with preparing the town’s master plan, reviewing applications for development for site plan and subdivision approval, making recommendations to the township council on any proposed changes to the land use ordinance, and granting conditional use or bulk variances in association with subdivision and site plan applications.

Wynn’s departure from the planning board marks yet another local government seat that is changing hands this year. Montclair will also see a complete change in its municipal government after this year’s election, including a new mayor and a completely fresh dais of town council members.
