Lupus Awareness Month In Montclair: Proclamation, Purple Lights

Montclair's municipal building is lighting up purple in tribute to Lupus Awareness Month this May.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Montclair’s municipal building is lighting up purple in tribute to Lupus Awareness Month this May.

Recently, the town council passed a proclamation to help spread awareness about Lupus, a chronic disease where the body’s immune system attacks its own tissues and organs.

According to Judith Mills, the founder of nonprofit advocacy group Butterfly Walkers Inc., it’s a disease that is particularly affecting women, including those of African American, Hispanic, Asian and Native American descent.

As part of the effort to raise awareness, the municipal building will have purple lighting this month.
