Man Fled From Montclair Cops, Hid In Bushes Near Train Tracks: PD

A Hamilton resident led a Montclair police officer on a car chase in a stolen vehicle that crossed into Glen Ridge, authorities said.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — A Hamilton resident led a Montclair police officer on a car chase in a stolen vehicle that crossed into Glen Ridge on Monday. He was later found hiding in some bushes near a set of train tracks, authorities said.

The Montclair Police Department released the following details about the incident, which began at the parking lot of the CVS pharmacy on Claremont Avenue:

“An officer located a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee parked in the parking lot of CVS. The vehicle had previously been reported stolen from a Central Avenue residence on Sept. 18. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle however it sped off and refused to stop. The officer followed the vehicle into Glen Ridge, where a single occupant fled after driving down a dead-end street.”

Montclair and Glen Ridge police officers eventually found Omar Williams, 42, of Hamilton, hiding in bushes near the NJ Transit train tracks.

Police charged Williams with receiving stolen property, eluding and resisting arrest. He was also charged with shoplifting from CVS, authorities said.
