Montclair may soon have another connection to a gubernatorial candidate in 2025: U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Montclair may soon have another connection to a gubernatorial candidate: U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill.
The congresswoman – who represents the state’s 11th District in the House of Representatives – told MSNBC that she is “strongly considering” running for governor in 2025 when Gov. Phil Murphy’s term ends.
Many political pundits have been speculating that Sherrill, a Democrat who has an office in Livingston, may be among next year’s gubernatorial contenders, although she hasn’t officially declared her candidacy yet.

If she declares a run for governor, Sherrill would be Montclair’s second candidate to replace Murphy. In June, former Montclair mayor Sean Spiller announced he is running for governor as a Democrat, emphasizing his background as an educator and campaigning on a "working class" platform.
