MKA's Shea Murphy A Top Scorer for Cougar Laxladies

Montclair resident Shea Murphy is enjoying an outstanding junior season as a top attacker for the Montclair Kimberley Academy girls lacrosse team.

The junior entered recent action with a team-leading 20 goals to go along with 10 assists for the Cougar laxladies who had a 4-5 record through the first nine games this spring.

Her twin sister Maggie is another key attacker for MKA which will look to be a factor in both the prep and Essex County tournaments.

"The offensive conributions of Shea Murphy, Bebe Scoourzo, Payton Sullivan, Biko McNeill and Maggie Murphy have been really encouraging, not just in terms of goals, but in the way they've helped drive the attack with energy and purpose," said MKA first-year head coach Kristen Dawes. "Each player brings something a little different and that variety has made the offense more dynamic.

"For our team to keep pushing forward that group will be key. They've shown they can be dangerous when they're playing with confidence and attacking the goal. Now it's about staying consistent and continuing to grow that chemistry each game."

Shea Murphy had a big performance in a recent (April 21) 8-4 win at West Essex when she scored four goals to lead the offense for the Cougars.

"Shea is a dynamic player and we're looking for her to continue to help lead the way for our attack as we now get into tournament time," said Dawes. "She always seems to be able to come up with a big goal when we need one."

MKA is the 2-time defending champions in the Non-Public, Group B state tournament.
