Modern Music Academy Celebrates Grand Opening

The Montclair Music Academy on Grove Street celebrated its move from Los Angeles to Montclair this week with a grand opening ceremony attended by Mayor Jerry Fried, YMCA President and CEO Jo Ann Short, and a variety of local business leaders.

In addition to offering instrumental and vocal lessons, the academy also is equipped with a recording studio so that it can offer hands-on lessons in song writing, recording, beat-making, DJ techniques, video and audio production, and even music marketing.

For the past eight years, the school's directors, Jarrett and Jenny Zellea, have been producing music and TV shows in Los Angeles, only recently moving back to Montclair. Jarrett Zallea has garnered two Grammy awards and has toured with everyone from Santana to the Jonas Brothers. Jenny Zellea has produced six Emmy award-winning TV shows including "Fear Factor."

"We've parlayed our successes in music and TV in Los Angeles into some really unique programs that no other music school in town is offering, including a top-notch artist development program geared towards students looking to make a career in music; a DJ-ing/beat-making, recording technique class; and even a producing program for students looking to learn how to write, direct, shoot, and edit their own videos," Jenny Zellea said.

To celebrate its grand opening week, the academy is offering a free lesson to any new student who signs up for a four-lesson package or a spring music class (Glee for kids and teens, Beginning Guitar for teens and adults, and Cover Band for teens and adults) by Tuesday, April 17.
