Montclair Ages In Place: Edgemont Park House Saw 7K Visitors

The Edgemont Park House for Senior Activities, now open nearly three years, had more than 7,000 visitors in 2018, Montclair officials said.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Montclair’s “Aging In Place” initiative – including the Edgemont Park House for Senior Activities – is paying off for the town’s senior citizen population, municipal officials recently reported.

Earlier this week, as part of a statement on the proposed municipal budget, Montclair town officials lauded efforts from the Division of Senior Services/Lifelong Montclair to help “improve livability for older adults in the community.”

According to town officials, the Edgemont Park House for Senior Activities – now open nearly three years – has been “steadily increasing annual numbers,” and had more than 7,000 visitors in 2018.

Programs for 2019 will include an intergenerational story slam, partnerships in the community to expand Montclair Institute for Lifelong Learning (MILL) offerings, and a public-facing awareness campaign during Older Americans Month in May, officials said.

“Aging in place initiatives make living at home a safe and healthy option for many seniors,” said Town Councilman Robert Russo. “They help seniors maintain a sense of independence and improve their quality of life by enabling them to continue having connections to their communities and friends.”
