Montclair BOSE Reviews School Budget, Public Hearings Set

The PTA council will hold another public info session about school budgeting after seeing "lots of interest" in their first offering.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — The Montclair Board of School Estimate (BOSE) held its first review of the proposed budget for the next school year, with public hearings set for March.

Earlier this month, the Montclair Public School District submitted a $135 million proposed budget to county officials. For a home valued at $627,995, the estimated district school tax levy will increase by $214, school officials said.

School taxes are one part of a local resident's property tax, along with municipal and county taxes. See the district's full budget presentation here.

PTA BUDGET EVENT

Have you ever wondered how the Montclair school district is funded, how enrollment affects class sizes, or how either of these numbers affect the budget?

The highlights points of district budgeting were covered on March 4 when the local PTA council hosted a panel discussion with Superintendent Jonathan Ponds, Business Administrator Emidio D'Andrea and Supervisor of Accounting Melissa Beattie (see video below).

Organizers said there were still questions and “lots of interest” after the first meeting, so the PTAC is hosting another session on Thursday, March 25 from 7:30 to 9 p.m.
