Montclair Cops To Host 'Citizens Police Academy' Classes
Participants will gain an insight into the functions and responsibilities of police departments as well as criminal law and legal procedure.

Montclair, NJ - The Montclair Police Department (MPD) will host an encore session of its Citizens Police Academy, a 10-week program that teaches residents about various aspects of law enforcement, covering subjects such as crime scene investigation, cyber crime, domestic violence and use of force.
The program is free of charge. Classes meet Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. starting April 14 and running through June 23.
All classes will be held at Christ Church at 68 Church Street.

According to a township news release, classes will be instructed by certified law enforcement officers from the Montclair Police Department, as well as officers from other agencies. The program offers no police certification, but is intended to provide a better understanding of modern police practices. In addition, participants will gain an insight into the functions and responsibilities of police departments as well as criminal law and legal procedure.
Class size will be limited to 25 people and space is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Montclair Township residents and employees will be given preference over non-residents.

Applicants must be at least 21 years old. A background check will be conducted on all applicants. Enrollment is subject to approval by the Chief of Police and access may be denied to those will a criminal arrest record.
Audio and video recording of any portion of the course is strictly prohibited without the express written consent of the Montclair Police Department.
