Montclair Film Festival 2022: What To Expect At Popular Event
A beloved Montclair tradition will return from Oct. 21 to Oct. 30. It will include several TV/Hollywood luminaries – here's what to expect.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — A beloved Montclair tradition is returning for another year of films, fun and festivities this weekend.
The 11th annual Montclair Film Festival will kick off Friday, Oct. 21 and run to Sunday, Oct. 30. It will include a wide variety of movies, events and screenings, including “An Evening with Daniel Craig and Stephen Colbert,” which will take place at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark on Friday, Oct. 28.

The festival is presented by Montclair Film, a nonprofit with an advisory board that includes household names such as J.J. Abrams, Laura Linney, Patrick Wilson and Jon Stewart.

“The festival will feature films including the Opening Night presentation of GLASS ONION: A KNIVES OUT MYSTERY; Closing Night’s SHE SAID; Centerpiece films THE GOOD NURSE and PATRICK AND THE WHALE; Breakthrough presentation of Elegance Bratton’s THE INSPECTION; and highlight screenings of SR., WHITE NOISE, WOMEN TALKING, SYNECDOCHE, NEW YORK in celebration of 30 years of Sony Pictures Classics and more! A slew of events and award presentations are lined up including conversations led by Stephen Colbert and with Daniel Craig (GLASS ONION) and Brendan Fraser (THE WHALE) and award presentations to Eddie Redmayne (THE GOOD NURSE), Elegance Bratton (THE INSPECTION) & Maria Schrader (SHE SAID).”
Organizers said the 2022 David Carr Award for Truth In Filmmaking will go to “She Said,” which will be the closing night film (watch the trailer below):
“Each year, the Montclair Film Festival honors the legacy of New York Times reporter and longtime Montclair resident David Carr by presenting an award to an outstanding film that honors Mr. Carr’s passion for the truth and his commitment to great journalism. This year, The David Carr Award for Truth in Filmmaking is awarded to SHE SAID, directed by Maria Schrader. By granting this award, the festival honors SHE SAID’s deeply affecting look at how the meticulous process of great reporting can create seismic change by giving voice to those who seek to challenge the powerful.”
“This year’s festival program is filled with opportunities for exploration and discovery,” Montclair Film Artistic Director Tom Hall said.
“We look forward to seeing our patrons embrace their curiosity as they come together and join us in celebrating the work of these wonderful filmmakers,” Hall added.
