Montclair Fire Destroys Home, Dog Rescued From Blaze

Montclair firefighters extinguished a Highland Avenue home fire, rescuing a family dog from the blaze in the process, authorities say.

Montclair, NJ – Montclair firefighters extinguished a Highland Avenue home fire on Wednesday, rescuing a family dog from the blaze in the process, authorities stated.

According to the Montclair Fire Department, a crew arrived at the home around 2:33 p.m. to find a heavy smoke condition coming from the home’s basement and first floor.

Mounting a coordinated attack, firefighters managed to “quickly” subdue the flames, authorities stated.

“The only occupant of the home at that time was the family dog, who was rescued by fire department personnel,” Montclair Deputy Chief Robert Duncan said.

However, the home suffered heavy fire damage to the basement and kitchen area, as well as smoke damage throughout the house, and is currently inhabitable, Duncan stated.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident, authorities said.

The fire reportedly started in the basement, but the cause is still under investigation, authorities stated.
