Montclair Hiring Police Officers, Seeks Local Residents

Have you ever wondered what it takes to be a Montclair police officer? Hint: Being a local resident can't hurt your chances.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Have you ever wondered what it takes to be a Montclair police officer? Hint: if you’re a local resident it may give you a leg up.

On Wednesday, the Montclair Police Department announced that the MPD is hiring local residents for police officer positions. Interested parties should go to www.policeapp.com to apply. The application is for Montclair residents only. Non-residents are not eligible to apply via this process.

According to the MPD, here are some of the job qualifications:

  • Must be a Township of Montclair, New Jersey resident, and a citizen of the United States
  • Must have a minimum of 60 college credits or 2 years of active military service with an honorable discharge
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Cannot be convicted of any crime
  • Must possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license

The selection process includes the following components:

  • Physical Agility Test
  • Interview Panel
  • Background Investigation
  • Medical Investigation
  • Psychological Investigation

According to the MPD, the physical test is not gender-specific. The events and minimum scores to pass are:

  • 1.5 mile run in 15:55 or less
  • 300 meter run in 70.1 seconds or less
  • Vertical jump of 15 inches or more
  • 24 push-ups in 1 minute or less
  • 28 sit-ups in 1 minute or less
