Montclair History Center Nets Funds To Improve Disability Access
A plan to improve access for people with disabilities at the Montclair History Center's 2-acre campus on Orange Road got a financial boost.
MONTCLAIR, NJ — A plan to improve access for people with disabilities at the Montclair History Center’s two-acre campus on Orange Road recently got a financial boost from a state grant, the nonprofit says.
The center announced that it has been awarded funding through the New Jersey Cultural Trust’s Capital Historic Preservation grant program, based on the recommendation of the New Jersey Historic Trust.
The Montclair nonprofit was the only organization in Essex County to earn funding this cycle, netting a $40,000 award.

Here’s the plan, according to a statement from the center:
“The Montclair History Center has developed an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) site plan for our two-acre Orange Road campus that will provide barrier free improvements to the Clark and Nathaniel Crane Houses, [and] allow for more efficient circulation and parking. The goals of this project are to improve accessibility into the historic building and create an inviting environment for people of all ages and abilities. This project is managed by Sionas Architecture and Anderson Engineering Consulting Services.”
Funding has also been received by the Hyde and Watson Foundation, the New Jersey Historic Trust and a Montclair Township Community Development Block Grant to begin phase one construction at the Clark House, which serves at the history center’s offices and research library.
