Montclair House Fire On Hartley Street; Cause Under Investigation

MFD: The blaze caused fire, water and smoke damage to the basement, as well as smoke damage throughout the rest of the house.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Montclair fire officials are investigating the cause of a fire that damaged a Hartley Street home on Monday evening, authorities say.

According to the Montclair Fire Department, firefighters responded to Hartley Street around 9:07 p.m. after receiving a call about a fire in progress. On arrival, firefighters found smoke and flames coming from the basement.

All of the home’s occupants self-evacuated prior to the MFD’s arrival, authorities said.

Firefighters placed the blaze under control in less than an hour. The incident caused fire, water and smoke damage to the basement, as well as smoke damage throughout the rest of the house, officials said.

The West Orange Fire Department responded to the scene, while Orange, South Orange and Irvington fire departments covered the town. No injuries were reported, authorities said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Montclair officials stated Wednesday.
