Montclair Man Almost Robbed At Gunpoint, Outruns Assailants: Police

The Montclair resident told police that two men – one clad in a track suit and armed with a gun – tried to rob him near Maple and Elmwood.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — A Montclair man reported that he was the victim of an armed robbery on Sunday, police say.

According to the Montclair Police Department, the 28-year-old victim told officers that he was walking in the area of Maple and Elmwood Avenue when two men in a dark-colored Jeep approached him. The victim told officers that the men got out of the vehicle and began to chase him, one brandishing a handgun.

He said that he managed to outrun his assailants, who then returned to their car and fled the area.

The victim described the man who allegedly brandished the gun as a dark-complexioned, black male in his early 20s, about 5 foot 8 inches, and wearing a black track suit with white stripes down the sleeves and legs, police stated.

Nobody was injured in the incident, police said.
