Montclair Opens Cooling Centers As Heat Wave Continues
Is your air conditioner malfunctioning? Here's where you can cool down in Montclair this week.
MONTCLAIR, NJ — Montclair will open several cooling centers as a weather forecast of extreme heat lingers this week.
As of Wednesday morning, there were 15 New Jersey counties under a heat advisory. Temperatures near 100 were expected in Passaic, Hudson, Bergen, Essex and Union counties through Thursday evening, forecasters said.
Due to the excessive heat forecast, the following facilities in Montclair opened as cooling centers on Wednesday, and will remain open through Friday at their regular hours:

- The Township Municipal Building, 205 Claremont Avenue, will be open from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
- The Montclair Public Library main branch, 50 South Fullerton Avenue, will be open during the hours of 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday; and 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
- The Montclair Public Library Bellevue Avenue branch, 185 Bellevue Avenue, will be open Wednesday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Thursday 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Friday 2:00 to 6:00 p.m.
The heat wave has caused school districts across New Jersey, including Montclair, to alter their plans for the first day of class. Some have declared half-days or shortened their schedules to safeguard students against the heat.
