Montclair Police Say 2 Luring Attempts Reported [PHOTO]

Montclair police say the incidents reportedly took place at Norwood Avenue and Marion Road, and Park Street and Claremont Avenue.

MONTCLAIR, NJ - Montclair police say that two attempted lurings were reported in the township in the space of a week, but that neither resulted in the suspect leaving their vehicles.

It has not been determined if these incidents are connected, police stated Wednesday.

According to the Montclair Police Department, the first incident took place around 4 p.m. on Jan. 13 in the area of Norwood Avenue and Marion Road. The victim, a nine-year-old boy, told officers that he was walking down the street when a driver in a blue or black color sedan pulled up beside him and started to honk the horn.

The driver allegedly told the juvenile to follow him, at which point the child fled the scene, police said.

Authorities released the below sketch of the suspect, described as a white male in his 50’s with white/gray hair, a white mustache and beard, and wearing a black shirt.

PARK AND CLAREMONT ATTEMPTED LURING

Montclair police stated that another reported luring took place around 6:52 p.m. on Tuesday in the area of Park Street and Claremont Avenue.

According to police, the victim, a 16-year-old female, told officers that a dark-colored sedan pulled up next to her as she was walking alone south on Park Street. The victim said that the driver of the car repeatedly told her to get into the car until she fled the area on foot.

She could only describe the suspect as a male with a possible accent, police said. No photo/sketch of the suspect was available.
