Montclair Police Swear In 4 New Officers, Including NY Jets Signee
Montclair's new officers include graduates of Rutgers, Montclair State, Wagner College, as well as a former NY Jets signee.

Montclair, NJ – Welcome to the force, officers.
On Friday, Montclair officials held a swearing-in ceremony in the Municipal Chambers for four new police officers: Corey D. Graves; Steven E. Mateo; Shawn P. McMackin and David M. Osborne, Jr.
Local football fans with good memories may remember McMackin, who signed a free agent contract with the New York Jets in 2008.

According to a township news release, the officers successfully completed their probationary period basic employee indoctrination and underwent a 12-week field training program where they were paired with specially trained, experienced patrol officers.

- “Officer Corey D. Graves is a Rutgers University graduate who earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in criminal justice and public service in May of 2013. He served as a Community Service Officer with Rutgers University and assisted university security operations in conjunction with the university police department. He graduated from the Union County Police Academy in June 2014 and since that time has served as a police officer with the Rutgers University Police Department. Officer Steven E. Mateo graduated Montclair State University in December of 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in justice studies and is a 2013 graduate of the Bergen County Police Academy. Officer Mateo previously served with the East Orange Police Department as a police officer in patrol.”

- “Officer Shawn P. McMackin earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology at Hofstra University in December, 2007 and the following year signed a free agent contract with the New York Jets. He graduated from the Essex County Police Academy in December 2013 as a Special Law Enforcement Officer Class Two (SLEOII) and subsequently served with the Essex County Sherriff’s Office as a deputy sheriff. He is also certified as an emergency medical technician.”
- “Officer David M. Osborne, Jr. graduated Wagner College in May of 2005 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. He worked with the Montville Board of Education since 2007 as a substitute teacher and athletics coach and in 2012 became a Montclair Police Department dispatcher. Officer Osborne attended the 22-week Basic Course for Police Officers at the Essex County College Public Safety Academy last year.”
