Montclair is temporarily suspending its municipal Styrofoam recycling program because the town's service provider went out of business.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Montclair is temporarily suspending its municipal Styrofoam recycling program because the town’s service provider went out of business, officials announced Wednesday.

The township issued an advisory about the issue via social media:

“Styrofoam recycling has been temporarily suspended until further notice. The recycling plant we have been using has closed its doors after 80 years of business. All Styrofoam items can go out with regular household garbage.”

Montclair made Styrofoam recycling permanent in 2021 after a running a successful pilot program the previous summer. Officials said the recycling vendor, Foam Pack in Springfield, remanufactures the Styrofoam into other products, such as picture frames.
