Montclair Resident Leads MKA Hockey 'D'

Montclair resident Henry McCann is a senior tri-captain and stellar defenseman for the Montclair Kimberley Academy ice hockey team which has been surging of late with victories over both previously-undefeated Scotch Plains (5-1, Tuesday, Jan. 14) and rival Verona-Glen Ridge (5-3, Wednesday, Jan. 15) while improving to 5-3-2 overall, which is also their record in the NJIIHL Kelly Divisio as they challenge for a regular season division title .

"Our team defense has been strong with great back-checking," said MKA Coach Tim Cook. "And, our in-zone defense by our forwards has been solid and- overall - it has been led by our six defensemen, with Henry McCann, Ibou Conteh and Ayan Flowers who have been towers of power, and Alex Shilkrot, who is one of the best skating and positional D-men in the league. Tyler Parliman continues to show a steady and smart game. Thomas Meeker goes back and forth between forward and 'D' without comment and brings leadership and physiality no matter theh position.

"And, our goalies, James Bronson (of Montclair) and Daniel Canizares have shut the door all year and given us a chance to win every game. They have been exceptional."

MKA owns an early season 3-2 overtime win vs. neighboring rival Montclair in the annual Montclair Cup Game.

The two teams are scheduled to meet again on Friday, Jan. 17, back at the Clary Anderson Arena.
