Montclair Residents Help Propel MKA Tennis

Montclair residents help boost the fortunes of the Montclair Kimberley Academy boys tennis team which finished 16-8 and reached the finals of the Essex County Tournament while also winning a state prep B-Division Tournament title.

Freshman Thomas Irwin was a starter in doubles while Skipper also saw some starting roles and Shah provided nice depth on a talented Cougars squad.

"Thomas stepped in and did real nice job for us, Scott has been strong in rotating in when we've needed him and Nikhil is a great teammate as well," said MKA assistant coach Bill Wing, who filled in for much of the season for veteran head man Val Azzoli, who was away for a few weeks to attend to a famly matter. "We had a great group of boys on this season's team and did very well against a strong schedule."

MKA defeated fellow state-ranked power Millburn twice in three meetings and was a strong runner-up in the ECT where it fell to state titan Newark Academy in the final.
