Montclair Residents Lead Hockey Power At MKA

Montclair Kimberley Academy's outstanding ice hockey team has been led by Montclair residents, including All-Conference senior Henry McCann sophomores Ethan Kilcullen and James Bronson and junior Ian Tratner as the Cougars captured the regular season Kelly Division title in the N.J. Interscholastic Ice Hockey League.

MKA entered late-season action with a fine 10-4-3 overall record and a 8-2-2 mark in the NJIIHL's Kelly Division. The Cougars put together a fine 7-0-1 stretch and did not lose a game for nearly a month between Jan. 14 and Feb. 10 when they were edged by Scotch Plains, 4-1, in the final of the Kelly Cup playoffs, Feb. 10, at the Richard J. Codey Arena in West Orange.

McCann, a veteran senior defenseman, earned first-team All-Kelly Conference honors while leading the Cougars in goals (15) and assists (16) through the first 17 games.

Kilcullen, a promising sophomore forward, has 11 goals and 3 assists as the season hits its stretch run. He had his team's goal in the Kelly Cup final vs. Scotch Plains and also scored a goal in each of MKA's two wins vs. neighboring rival Montclair High, 3-2 in an overtime contest, Dec. 18, in the Montclair Cup Game, and also a 4-2 Cougars triumph over the Mounties in a second regular season Kelly Division clash on Jan. 17.

Bronson has been stellar in goal during his six starts with a splendid .949 save %.

Tratner has provided depth on the talented MKA squad.
